Supermassive, the developer behind The Dark Pictures and The Quarry, has made significant adjustments, including delaying the launch of its forthcoming horror title, Directive 8020, and reducing its workforce by 36 positions. In a social media statement, the company noted that the gaming industry's ongoing evolution and challenges necessitated these changes. The decision to initiate a redundancy consultation process was made to align the team structure with the shifting landscape. The studio's primary focus is now on providing comprehensive support to those impacted. Additionally, Directive 8020's release has been rescheduled for the first half of 2026, while the development of Little Nightmares 3 remains unaffected. This move comes amid a wave of industry-wide layoffs, with an estimated 4,000 developers having lost their jobs in 2025, including recent cuts at EA and Microsoft.
