Nintendo Sees Significant Staff Growth with Low Employee Turnover Rates

Recent data released by Nintendo sheds light on the company's employee trends, revealing that staff members tend to have lengthy careers with the firm. According to the updated records, which cover the period from April 2024 to March 2025, the average term of service for employees at Nintendo Japan is 14.4 years. In contrast, Nintendo of America employees have an average tenure of 10 years, while those at Nintendo of Europe stay for 11.1 years, and Nintendo Australia employees have an average of 8.5 years. Notably, male employees tend to stay slightly longer than their female counterparts across all regions. The employee turnover rates are remarkably low, with Japan at 1.9%, America at 5.7%, Europe at 6%, and Australia at 16.7%. The company boasts a total of 5,630 full-time employees worldwide, a relatively small number considering its substantial profit. Nintendo reported a gross profit of $4.9 billion for the year ending March 31, 2025, translating to $870,337 per employee. In comparison, Sony's Game & Network Services division had 12,100 employees and an operating income of $2.8 billion, equivalent to $231,404 per employee. Over the past year, Nintendo's full-time employee count has increased by 366, from 5,264 to 5,630. The breakdown shows a rise of 148 employees in Japan, 165 in America, and 56 in Europe, while Australia saw a decrease of three employees. The majority of full-time staff are based in Japan, with 2,962 employees, followed by America with 1,446 staff, Europe with 1,123 staff, and Australia with 99 staff. The gender distribution varies significantly by region, with 76.6% of staff in Japan being male, compared to 60.9% in America and 58.3% in Europe. In Australia, the gender split is nearly equal. For context, a 2022 survey by UKIE found that 67% of the UK games industry workforce identified as male, 30% as female, and 3% as non-binary or another gender.
