Roblox Introduces New Licensing Platform with Major Partners
Roblox has launched a new licensing platform that streamlines the process of licensing intellectual properties for use in Roblox experiences. This platform enables creators to access popular licenses from major partners such as Sega, Netflix, Lionsgate, and Kodansha, with more partners expected to join in the coming months. Sega is offering its Like A Dragon series, while Netflix is providing access to hit shows like Squid Game and Stranger Things. Lionsgate is contributing its Divergent, Now You See Me, Saw, and Twilight franchises, and Kodansha will soon add two of its manga titles to the platform. The Roblox License Manager and Licenses catalogue are the core components of the platform, designed to provide media licensing at scale. IP holders can use the License Manager to set licensing terms, including content maturity and revenue share, and can choose to take a tailored or open approach to licensing. They can also monitor IP usage across existing experiences. Developers can browse and apply for licenses through the catalogue. The terms of use and revenue split vary depending on the license, with some requiring a minimum number of daily active users or adhering to specific guidelines. Roblox aims to have 10% of all gaming content revenue flow through its ecosystem, and this initiative is a key step towards achieving that goal.
