Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Gets Greenlit for Second Season
CD Projekt Red has confirmed that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners will be returning for a second season, with a brand-new 10-episode anime series in the works at Netflix, in collaboration with Studio Trigger. This latest installment will feature a distinct narrative from its predecessor. Kai Ikarashi is set to make his directorial debut, alongside Masahiko Otsuka and lead character designer Kanno Ichigo. According to series showrunner, story writer, and producer Bartosz Sztybor, the partnership with Studio Trigger will enable the introduction of a grittier, more intense story of redemption and revenge. Sztybor revealed during the 2025 Anime Expo in Los Angeles that the upcoming season will be 'darker, bloodier, and rawer' than before. Initially conceived as a standalone project, the first season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners garnered widespread critical acclaim and significantly boosted CD Projekt's Q3 revenue in 2022. The show's success also had a positive impact on Cyberpunk 2077, with the game experiencing a surge of one million daily players following the show's release. An Edgerunners-themed update was subsequently added to the game for both new and returning players. At the time, CD Projekt joint CEO MichaĆ Nowakowski expressed the company's commitment to further developing the Cyberpunk IP, with plans to create new stories, experiences, and content beyond the video game format.
