Nintendo Switch 2 Smashes US Launch Week Records with Over 1.1 Million Units Sold

The Nintendo Switch 2 has achieved a remarkable milestone, surpassing 1.1 million units sold in the US within its launch week, thereby setting a new record for gaming hardware sales. According to data shared by Circana's executive director, Mat Piscatella, on social media, a significant 79% of these sales included physical and bundled purchases of Mario Kart World. Notably, this figure of 1.1 million units does not account for sales from the My Nintendo Store. The top-selling games for the Switch 2 during the week ending June 7, 2025, were Mario Kart World, Cyberpunk 2077, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's enhanced edition. Additionally, sales of the Switch 2 in Japan have reached nearly one million units, marking the country's most successful console launch to date, as reported by Famitsu. Globally, the console sold 3.5 million units within its first four days, breaking internal records. Nintendo had initially forecasted sales of 15 million units by March 2026, while a report by Ampere Analysis predicts that over 13 million players will purchase the console during its launch year.
