SAG-AFTRA National Board Gives Tentative Agreement the Green Light

The SAG-AFTRA national board has given its seal of approval to a tentative agreement with the convenience bargaining group regarding the Interactive Media Contract, as announced earlier in the week. The next step involves presenting the contract to the union's members for a ratification vote. If approved, the agreement promises a 15.7% increase in performer compensation, with an additional 3% rise over the next three years. Notable changes include a revised overtime rate maximum for overscale performers, now based on double scale, and an increase in health and retirement contribution rates from 16.5% to 17% upon ratification, and further to 17.5% by October 2026. The union has outlined key details on AI-related safeguards, including the necessity of informed consent for using digital replicas, especially during strike actions. Emphasis has also been placed on enhanced safety protocols, including the mandatory presence of a medical professional during hazardous rehearsals or performances, designated rest periods for on-camera performers, and the prohibition of employers requesting performers to undertake stunts or dangerous activities during virtual auditions. The comprehensive terms of the three-year plan are set to be released alongside ratification materials on June 18, 2025. This development follows the union's decision to formally end its 11-month industrial action against the video game bargaining group, which began after a strike vote in July 2024.
