Embracer CEO Lars Wingefors to Step Down, with Phil Rogers Taking the Reins in August 2025

Lars Wingefors, co-founder of Embracer, has announced his decision to step down as CEO, with Phil Rogers, the current deputy CEO, set to take over the position in August 2025. Rogers, who joined Embracer in 2022 following the acquisition of Eidos Montreal, has previously led Crystal Dynamics and Plaion. Wingefors will remain with the company, proposed to take on the role of executive chair of the board, with current chair Kicki Wallje-Lund proposed as deputy chair. Additionally, Wingefors will serve as director of Coffee Stain Group alongside CEO and co-founder Anton Westbergh, with Erik Sunnerdahl appointed as CFO. Embracer recently announced plans to spin off Coffee Stain Group into a standalone entity by the end of the year, comprising over 250 game developers and publishers focused on community-driven experiences. Wingefors expressed gratitude for his time as CEO, highlighting the company's achievements and his confidence in Rogers' ability to lead the company forward. He also acknowledged the challenges faced during his tenure, including a major restructuring program in 2023 that resulted in significant job losses and studio closures.
