Outplay Entertainment, a prominent mobile game developer based in Dundee, Scotland, has undergone a restructuring process, resulting in the loss of over 20 jobs. This move aims to realign the company's operations with the current business landscape. The studio, which claims to be the largest independent mobile game developer in the UK, reportedly has 135 employees, although it is unclear if this number includes the recently laid-off staff. The layoffs account for approximately 15% of the company's workforce. In a statement, CEO Douglas Hare explained that the decision to restructure was made to support a strategic shift towards partnering with publishers for future game releases. Hare emphasized that the decision was not taken lightly and expressed gratitude to the affected team members, many of whom have made significant contributions to the company's games and culture. Outplay Entertainment is known for developing licensed mobile games such as Gordon Ramsay's Chef Blast, Angry Birds Pop!, and Subway Surfers Blast. The company is among several game developers that have announced job cuts in 2025, with over 2200 developers having lost their jobs so far this year.
