US Court Rejects Apple's Emergency Appeal in Ongoing Epic Games Dispute

A US court has turned down Apple's urgent request to suspend an injunction that prevents the tech giant from charging fees on purchases made through alternative app stores. Apple is currently appealing a court ruling from last month, which is part of its long-standing legal dispute with Epic Games over allegedly anti-competitive commission rates and restrictions on using alternative payment methods. According to CNBC, the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit decided that Apple must demonstrate that the circumstances warrant discretion, stating that after reviewing the relevant factors, it was not convinced that a stay was justified. Following the decision, Apple stated that it will continue to pursue its case during the appeals process. An Apple spokesperson expressed strong disagreement with the district court's opinion, emphasizing the company's goal of maintaining the App Store as a valuable opportunity for developers and a secure experience for users. Meanwhile, on June 2, the European Commission instructed Apple to comply with its Digital Markets Act, giving the company less than 30 days to update its App Store and allow developers to offer alternative payment options for apps.
