Scopely Completes $3.5 Billion Acquisition of Niantic's Gaming Division

Scopely, a subsidiary of Savvy Games Group, has announced the official completion of its $3.5 billion acquisition of Niantic's gaming business, effective as of late May. In a statement on its website, the company expressed pride in finalizing the deal on May 29, 2025. The acquisition brings several top-tier games, including Pokémon Go, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now, as well as companion apps Campfire and Wayfarer, under Scopely's portfolio. Over 400 skilled game developers from Niantic will join Scopely's global team, continuing to serve the gaming community. Initially announced in March, Scopely committed to avoiding layoffs as it integrates Niantic's staff. Pokémon Go, a consistent top 10 mobile game since its 2016 release, boasts over 100 million users as of 2024. Scopely plans to continue pursuing the existing roadmaps for Niantic's games. Following the acquisition, Niantic will transition into a new entity, Niantic Spatial, focusing on geospatial AI, while retaining ownership of games like Ingress Prime and Peridot.
