Welsh Game Developers Receive $1.1m Funding Boost from Welsh Government

Six independent game development companies in Wales have been awarded a combined total of $1.15 million in funding from the Welsh Government. This investment, provided through the Games Scale Up Fund for Wales, aims to support the growth and development of the country's gaming sector. The funded companies, including Cloth Cat, COPA Gaming, Goldborough Studios, Rocket Science, Sugar Creative, and Wales Interactive, will utilize the funding to expand their projects and increase their global reach. According to Osian Williams, director of COPA Gaming, this funding is a 'true game changer' that will enable his team to create unique and engaging games that showcase Welsh talent to a global audience. The Welsh Government's investment in the gaming industry is a testament to the country's commitment to nurturing its creative sector and promoting homegrown talent. Minister for culture, Jack Sargeant, emphasized the significance of this investment, stating that it will enable Welsh studios to 'level up their operations and reach new audiences worldwide.' The Games Development Fund, which is still open for applications, offers additional funding opportunities for Wales-based businesses developing video and immersive games projects.
