Niantic Spatial Reduces Workforce by a Limited Number of Employees
Niantic's subsidiary, Niantic Spatial, has confirmed a new round of layoffs. According to a report by Game Developer, Niantic stated that a limited number of roles were eliminated due to a restructuring at Spatial, which focuses on developing geospatial AI technology. The decision was made after identifying positions that were no longer necessary within the reorganized company. Although Niantic described the layoffs as affecting a 'small number' of employees, a WARN notice filed with the California Employment Development Department revealed that at least five staff members were let go. This recent downsizing follows an earlier round of layoffs in April, when 68 employees lost their jobs. The layoffs occurred after Scopely acquired Niantic for $3.5 billion, with Scopely later reassuring that no workforce reductions would be made in Niantic's gaming division following the acquisition.
