PlanetPlay Unveils Eco-Friendly Game Showcase at Summer Game Fest 2025
The non-profit organisation PlanetPlay is set to debut its Green Game Showcase at the Summer Game Fest on June 7, 2025, hosted by renowned games journalist Will Freeman. The event will put the spotlight on a curated selection of games that tackle environmental concerns and promote sustainability. Key partners for the showcase include Amazon Games, Lockwood Publishing, Sharkmob, Team17, Netspeak Games, and Wicked Saints Studios. In addition to the showcase, PlanetPlay aims to raise $300,000 by June 30, 2025, in order to plant 50,000 trees in Timor-Leste, supporting reforestation efforts in collaboration with the local non-profit organisation WithOneSeed. During the livestream, PlanetPlay ambassador Ian Livingstone will join Will Freeman for a Q&A session, exploring how games can inspire meaningful climate action and drive real-world impact. Livingstone, who was recently announced as a PlanetPlay ambassador alongside actress Briana Evigan and Formula E world champion Pascal Wehrlein, will discuss the potential of the gaming community to drive environmental change. According to PlanetPlay CEO Rhea Loucas, "This showcase serves as a call to action, harnessing the creativity and passion of the gaming community to promote environmental awareness and sustainability, proving that play can be a powerful catalyst for positive change." The showcase coincides with the release of PlanetPlay's latest Play2Act survey, conducted in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme, which found that nearly 50% of gamers have taken steps to reduce their environmental footprint after engaging with games that address climate change issues.
