Campfire Cabal Revival: Studio Resumes Operations After Temporary Closure

Following a period of uncertainty, THQ Nordic's Campfire Cabal studio has announced its return to active development. In a recent blog post, the studio revealed that despite being seemingly shuttered in 2023 as part of Embracer's restructuring efforts, it had, in fact, continued to operate in a limited capacity. The studio stated, 'We are finally ready to reveal that Campfire Cabal was never shut down,' and clarified that a smaller team had remained intact, working on the next installment of the Expedition series since 2022. This project was given the green light to proceed into full production by the end of March 2025. Notably, the studio also confirmed that it had released patches for Expeditions: Rome in 2024, despite its public absence since the initial closure announcement. Campfire Cabal expressed gratitude for the support it received from within the group, which enabled the studio to endure the challenging period in the gaming industry. The studio initially launched in September 2022, comprising veterans from the Expeditions franchise, but was slated for closure by August 2023 due to Embracer's restructuring. However, the studio's management and team remained committed to finding a resolution, with the support of THQ Nordic. The studio's return marks a new chapter, with the team now emerging with renewed energy to continue their work on the Expedition series.
