Carrie Patel, Former Avowed Director, Joins Night School Studio

Carrie Patel, the former director of Avowed, has made the move to Night School Studio, a development house owned by Netflix. The announcement was made by Patel herself on LinkedIn, though she didn't disclose details about her upcoming project at the studio behind Oxenfree. Patel spent almost 12 years at Obsidian Entertainment, where she most recently directed Avowed and previously held roles such as narrative designer on Pillars of Eternity and its expansions, narrative co-lead on Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire, and narrative designer on The Outer Worlds and its expansions, including Peril on Gorgon. Night School Studio was acquired by Netflix in 2021 and has been working on Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals, which was released in July 2023. In an interview, studio founder Sean Krankel discussed the impact of Netflix on the studio's operations. Earlier this year, Night School Studio underwent staff cuts, and Netflix cancelled several game launches, including Compass Point: West, Thirsty Suitors, and Tales of the Shire: A Lord of the Rings Game, as part of its efforts to refine its gaming portfolio.
