Spawn Point Launches to Empower Norway's Indie Game Developers

A new accelerator, Spawn Point, has been unveiled, already securing its inaugural group of participating studios. Operating from Trondheim, Norway, this initiative is designed to foster the growth of emerging independent developers through mentorship, specialized guidance, and opportunities for industry networking. Currently in its second year of experimentation, Spawn Point's initial program phase was substantially backed by public funding, resulting in support for five studios, including Lugn Games, Tooth Games, Shadowfay Games, Graybox Software, and HiPhi Games. Since October of the previous year, these studios have been engaging in monthly workshops and expert-led sessions, featuring industry professionals such as Jen MacLean, Susie McBeth, Ivan Carillo, and Jon Grande. According to Linn Søvig, project manager of Spawn Point, the accelerator was established to provide necessary support structures for Norwegian developers, acknowledging their talent while addressing the industry's need for resilience through varied market conditions. Søvig emphasizes that Spawn Point is intended to be a platform where developers can recharge, challenge their existing notions, and receive market-aware feedback, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding their projects, whether that involves intensifying efforts on current games or exploring alternative opportunities.
