Nintendo May Become Leading Partner for Third-Party Game Publishers Within Five Years

A recent study predicts that Nintendo may become the primary partner for third-party game publishers over the next five years. According to DFC Intelligence, Nintendo is likely to exceed its own sales forecast for the Switch 2, potentially selling up to 20 million units by the end of the fiscal year in March 2026. This estimate is based on the company's historical tendency to underestimate its sales projections. By 2029, the Switch 2 is expected to have sold over 100 million units, making it the best-selling console by a significant margin. As a result, Nintendo may become the go-to partner for third-party game publishers for the first time. This development comes as Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa clarified that the higher price point of the Switch 2 was determined by factors such as manufacturing costs and market conditions, rather than US tariffs.
