Nintendo President Clarifies US Tariffs Had No Impact on Switch 2 Pricing

Nintendo's president, Shuntaro Furukawa, has reaffirmed that US tariffs did not influence the pricing of the Switch 2. In a recent earnings call Q&A, Furukawa stated that the price of ¥49,980/$499.99/£395.99 was determined by factors such as manufacturing costs, consumer impressions, market conditions, and exchange rates. He also noted that for software, the company considers additional factors like increases in development costs and file size when setting prices. Furukawa emphasized that the company's priority is to maintain the momentum of its platforms, which is crucial for its dedicated video game platform business. The higher price of the Switch 2 has been factored into the company's sales forecast, with expectations of 15 million hardware units and 45 million software units sold. The forecast is set with the aim of meeting the same level of sales as the original Switch did in its first ten months, while also taking into account the challenges posed by the Switch 2's relatively high price. To accelerate adoption, Nintendo is focusing on building software with the hardware and ensuring continuity between the Switch and Switch 2 platforms. The company's production capacity and tariff situation in the US are not expected to impact the forecast, with Furukawa emphasizing the importance of maintaining momentum throughout the year to achieve sales targets.
