Warner Bros Sees 48% Decline in Gaming Revenue for Q1 2025

Warner Bros has released its financial report for the first quarter of 2025, revealing a significant 48% drop in gaming revenue. The company's Studios segment, which includes gaming, did not provide detailed revenue figures but cited two main reasons for the decline: the underperformance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and the absence of new game releases during the quarter. Despite this, Warner Bros noted that Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1 continue to generate revenue. The company also highlighted the box office success of A Minecraft Movie, which has grossed nearly $900 million globally. The Studios segment as a whole saw a 16% decrease in revenue, totaling $2.3 billion, while Warner Bros' overall revenue for Q1 2025 was $9 billion, representing a 9% year-over-year decrease. Following its FY2024 results, Warner Bros discussed its restructuring efforts, including the closure of several game development studios. The company described 2024 as a disappointing year for its gaming segment and outlined plans to focus on proven intellectual properties and games from top-tier studios, emphasizing four key franchises: Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and DC, particularly top-tier characters like Batman.
