Twin Sails Interactive's Strategy to Differentiate Itself After Leaving Asmodee

Following its recent separation from the Asmodee Group through a strategic management buyout, Twin Sails Interactive is now focused on creating a unique position for itself in the gaming industry. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, CEO Nicolas Godement discussed the company's vision for building a sustainable platform that supports indie developers and its strategy for achieving long-term success. Godement emphasized the importance of not relying too heavily on the success of a single game, but rather on creating a stable business model by nurturing and growing a portfolio of beloved brands. According to Godement, when a studio achieves success with a game, it should invest time in understanding what made the game successful and build upon that momentum to establish a loyal audience. Twin Sails Interactive aims to achieve this by acquiring new games and existing IPs with untapped potential, without necessarily requiring ownership of the intellectual property. Instead, the company may establish separate terms and conditions for acquiring the IP at a later stage, if the studio is willing. The company is also interested in acquiring rights to released games where the original studio has moved on, but Twin Sails sees potential for growth. Godement stressed the value of re-igniting communities and fans of stagnant IPs by providing new content, updates, or follow-up titles. The company's goal is to have four to six titles in its portfolio each year, with a significant portion of these growing into long-term operations. To achieve this, Twin Sails is drawing inspiration from AAA publishers and their approach to building and sustaining game brands over decades. The company wants to work closely with its partner studios to identify what makes their games unique and appealing to players, and to help them build a solid creative foundation with resources such as lore books and visual art bibles. This foundation will serve as the basis for a long-term roadmap, outlining the game's content and evolution over the next decade. Godement believes that this approach will set Twin Sails apart from other mid-sized publishers, as it focuses on building brands that players return to, rather than just specializing in a particular genre or tone.
