Simon Zhu Exits Role as NetEase Executive

Simon Zhu, the president of global investments and partnerships at NetEase, has announced his departure from the company after a 12-year tenure. Zhu shared the news on LinkedIn, expressing his gratitude to colleagues, partners, and leaders who have supported him throughout his journey. He stated, "After an incredible 12 years at NetEase, I'm closing this chapter with the same passion that has driven me from day one." Vice President of Corporate Development Ken Li will be taking over Zhu's role, bringing his experience in overseeing the company's partnership with Blizzard. Zhu expressed confidence in Li's leadership, saying, "I'm confident his leadership will guide the team to new heights, serving developers and studios with excellence." This development follows a series of recent executive departures at NetEase, including President of Worldwide Publishing for PC and Console Matthew Weissinger and Marketing Manager of Mobile Games Matthew Liu. A NetEase spokesperson acknowledged the departures, stating, "We sincerely thank them for their contributions and wish all the best in future endeavors." The company emphasized that these personnel changes do not signify a shift in its global strategy, reaffirming its commitment to expanding and advancing its games and products worldwide. Earlier in 2025, two NetEase-backed studios underwent significant layoffs, with an unknown number of employees affected at a US support studio for Marvel Rivals and Liquid Swords reducing its workforce due to operational adjustments.
