Mighty Yell, a Toronto-Based Game Developer, Announces Staff Reductions
Mighty Yell, the development studio behind The Big Con, has confirmed a round of layoffs affecting an unspecified number of staff members as the company prepares to launch its next title, All Systems Dance. In a statement posted on the company's BlueSky account, Mighty Yell cited 'financial difficulties' as the primary reason for the layoffs, describing the decision as 'not taken lightly' and acknowledging its impact on the team and community. "We are committed to transparency regarding these layoffs and the challenging state of game development funding," the statement read. "Although we are still on track to release All Systems Dance, our current focus is on supporting our team during this challenging time. We hope to overcome this difficult period and reintegrate as many development team members as possible in the near future." Mighty Yell has developed two games to date: the 2021 adventure game The Big Con, set in the 1990s, and Knight in the Attic, a 2023 first-person VR game centered around an intricate labyrinth board. The upcoming release, All Systems Dance, is a rhythm-action adventure game set in a dystopian world.
