According to Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, a staggering 2.2 million people in Japan have applied for the console's pre-order lottery, greatly surpassing the number of units available. To manage the situation, Nintendo will automatically transfer unsuccessful applicants from the initial lottery to a subsequent one, with further lotteries and reservation systems being introduced at third-party retailers.
