Assassin's Creed Shadows Achieves Third Largest US Launch in Series History

March 2025 saw Assassin's Creed Shadows lead the US game sales charts, according to Circana, while monthly video game hardware spending decreased by 25% compared to the previous year. The latest installment in Ubisoft's series is currently the second best-selling game of the year in the US, following Monster Hunter Wilds. Notably, Assassin's Creed Shadows secured the top spot in full game dollar sales on Xbox and ranked second on both PlayStation and Steam. Circana's Mat Piscatella observed that it marked the third biggest launch month in terms of dollar sales for the series, surpassed only by Assassin's Creed 3 in 2012 and Assassin's Creed Valhalla in 2020. Other notable new releases include MLB: The Show 25, WWE 2K25, and EA/Hazelight's co-op game Split Fiction, which debuted at second, fourth, and fifth place, respectively. The mobile gaming market experienced a contraction compared to March 2024, but the top games continue to see success, with Monopoly Go, Candy Crush Saga, and Last War: Survival leading the charts. Pokémon Go climbed four places to sixth, driven by a 42% increase in consumer spending due to the Unova Tour event. Overall, the US gaming market saw a 6% decline in spending to $4.7 billion, with hardware spend experiencing a significant drop to $286 million, the lowest March total since 2019.
