GamesBeat Gains Independence as a Media Outlet
GamesBeat has officially announced its separation from tech news site VentureBeat, marking a new chapter in its history as an independent media outlet. As part of this transition, Gina Joseph, formerly the chief strategy officer at VentureBeat, has been appointed as the CEO of GamesBeat, bringing over two decades of experience in media and technology leadership. Joseph's tenure at VentureBeat began in 2018, where she held various roles including director of strategic partnerships, vice president, and executive vice president before becoming the chief strategy officer in March 2023. Prior to joining VentureBeat, Joseph worked at Hearst and MediaNews Group, and she currently serves as a board member for Midwest Games and the International Game Developers Association Foundation. Dean Takahashi, the founder and lead writer of GamesBeat, has been named editorial director following the outlet's independence. Takahashi has been a journalist since 1988 and started covering the gaming industry in 1996 during his time at The Wall Street Journal. The transition is supported by strategic advisors such as Peter Levin of Griffin Gaming Partners, and Greg Akselrud and Kelly Siobhan Laffey of Stubbs Alderton & Markiles. According to Joseph, this new chapter for GamesBeat will unlock unique insights and opportunities for the industry, allowing for more direct access to decision-makers. The goal is to grow GamesBeat into a leading industry platform that not only delivers news but also fosters connections and opportunities for business leaders. Takahashi emphasized that this is a new era for GamesBeat, with a focus on delivering thoughtful and insightful journalism that provides contextual understanding of the gaming industry's intersection with other high-growth sectors.
