Unity 6 Withdrawn from China, Replaced by Localized Alternative
The sale of Unity 6 has been halted in China, with Unity China introducing a localized version called Tuanjie in its place. According to reports, Unity has been taken off the shelves in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macau. In a statement, the company explained that Unity 6 and later versions will no longer be available to Chinese users, citing an adjustment to provide game engine services better suited to the Chinese market. Despite this, Unity Engine will continue to enhance and upgrade certain features of Unity 6 in 2025, including rendering functions tailored to Chinese users' needs. The company emphasized its commitment to delivering localized services, particularly in areas like small game solutions and OpenHarmony solutions, which cater to the Chinese market's requirements. Furthermore, Unity China will prioritize developer feedback, focusing on optimizing pricing for small and medium-sized teams and introducing more accessible licensing solutions. The company assured that Unity 2022 LTS and earlier versions will remain supported and maintained, with no impact on ongoing and released projects. This development follows Unity's recent pledge to provide official support for the Nintendo Switch 2, demonstrating its ongoing commitment to game developers.
