CD Projekt Red Absorbs The Molasses Flood in Latest Merger

The Molasses Flood, a Boston-based game development studio, has officially merged with CD Projekt Red, becoming an integral part of the CDPR Group as of April 1, 2025. This move was announced through a statement on the company's website. The decision to merge was initially disclosed in CD Projekt's FY24 financial report, aiming to enhance alignment in scope and direction for Project Sirius, a multiplayer game set in The Witcher universe that was first announced in 2022. As a result of the merger, The Molasses Flood has ceased to operate as a separate entity, with CD Projekt Red taking over its rights and obligations. The merger does not affect the availability or distribution of The Molasses Flood's games, The Flame in the Flood and Drake's Hollow, which will continue to be published by CD Projekt Red. In a LinkedIn post, Molasses Flood co-founder Damian Isla expressed his support for the merger, stating it breaks down organizational barriers and integrates The Molasses Flood team more closely with the rest of CDPR. Isla also announced his departure from the studio, reflecting on the decade-long journey of The Molasses Flood and the proud moments of creating memorable games despite the challenging market environment. The Molasses Flood was initially acquired by CD Projekt Red in 2021 and subsequently began working on Project Sirius. Although development on Project Sirius was reset in March 2023 due to a reevaluation of its scope and commercial potential, the project remains in development, with CD Projekt Red confirming its progression into pre-production in their latest financial results.
