Nintendo Introduces Pre-Order Limitations for Switch 2 Console

The company has stated that it will provide an update on the timing at a later date, while confirming that the June 5 launch date remains unchanged. Initially, Nintendo had introduced pre-order restrictions on the My Nintendo Store for the Switch 2, aiming to prioritize loyal players. These restrictions included invite-only pre-orders based on specific criteria, with UK and European consumers eligible to pre-order starting April 8, and those in the US and Canada on April 9. To be eligible, UK consumers must have held a Nintendo Switch Online membership continuously for at least two years as of March 31, 2025, and have an active membership at the time of pre-order. In the US, invites are being prioritized for those with a minimum of 12 months of paid membership. The selection process also considers players with significant playtime on Nintendo Switch games and those who have opted to share usage data with Nintendo, with a minimum requirement of 50 hours of playtime as of April 2, 2025. Additionally, consumers must have opted-in to receive promotional emails and messages from Nintendo to receive an invitation. The company has indicated that these criteria may be adjusted over time, allowing more players to pre-order the console while maintaining a focus on dedicated Nintendo Switch players. This approach is part of Nintendo's strategy to manage stock demands and combat scalping by ensuring sufficient console supply for retailers.
