PlaySide Announces Restructuring and Layoffs Amidst Industry Challenges
PlaySide Studios, a leading Australian game developer, has confirmed layoffs as part of a broader restructuring effort. The move comes after the company posted a revenue of $40.9 million earlier this year, with projected revenues for FY25 revised downward to $31.7-$34.2 million. The restructuring aims to save $2.5-$3.1 million, despite an initial cost of $954,000. Affected staff will receive outplacement support and counseling services. PlaySide Studios develops both self-published games and collaborative projects with major studios like Disney, Pixar, and Warner Bros. CEO Benn Skender stated, 'We're offering support to personnel impacted by the restructuring, and our thoughts are with them during this challenging time.' The decision reflects the company's commitment to building resilience and a stronger business model amidst a period of industry-wide layoffs, with over 1200 developers losing their jobs in the first quarter of 2025 alone.
