Founder of Amaze Steps Down Amidst Investigation into Inappropriate Conduct

Thorsten Wiedemann, the founder and director of Amaze, has announced his decision to step back from his role after admitting to inappropriate behaviour at an event in August. In a public statement, Wiedemann acknowledged that he had acted in a verbally offensive manner towards colleagues and guests, and had also invaded others' personal space. The organisation, which promotes independent and arthouse games, immersive media, and digital culture, has acknowledged that violations of its safe space policy and code of conduct occurred at the event in Sheffield, UK. The Amaze Berlin team has expressed serious concerns about the safety and integrity of its events and has investigated instances of unprofessional behaviour, including non-sexual harassment under the influence of alcohol. Wiedemann has taken full responsibility for his actions and has apologised to those affected, including performers, DJs, artists, venue workers, and visitors. He has also committed to learning from the experience and ensuring that it does not happen again. As a result of the investigation, Wiedemann will temporarily step back from all public roles and will not attend the Amaze Berlin 2025 programme. The organisation has decentralised its decision-making process, delegated key responsibilities, and committed to creating safer spaces and updating its emergency response structure. Wiedemann has stated that the mission of Amaze remains unchanged, and that misconduct has no place in the community.
