Tencent Boosts Stake in Kadokawa, FromSoftware's Parent Company
Tencent has bolstered its stake in Kadokawa, the parent company of FromSoftware, with a 1.11% increase, taking its total shareholding to 7.97%. According to a report by Nikkei, the move is part of a broader capital and business alliance between Tencent and Kadokawa. This development brings Tencent's shareholding in Kadokawa to within two percentage points of Sony's, which holds a 10% stake after increasing its shares in December last year, making it the largest shareholder of FromSoftware's parent company. The agreement between Kadokawa and Sony, announced earlier, involved a strategic capital and business alliance, with Sony acquiring over 12 million new shares in Kadokawa on January 7, 2025, for approximately ¥50 billion ($318 million).
