Apex Legends' French Voice Cast Rejects Contracts Due to AI-Related Clause

The French voice acting team behind Apex Legends has declined to sign contracts that would enable their voices to be utilized for training artificial intelligence. Pascale Chemin, the voice of French Wraith, revealed on Facebook that she and 31 other voice actors refused to sign the paperwork prior to a recording session. According to Chemin, the studio sent her and the other voice actors a confidentiality and handover agreement from the publisher, which she found unacceptable after consulting with a legal expert. Chemin stated that she was forced to relinquish her role, which she had been working on for nearly six years, and that all 32 cast members collectively refused their contracts and wrote a letter to the publisher, presumed to be EA. The voice actors are seeking to have a clause added to their contracts that protects their voices, not just for themselves, but for all video game dubbing studios. Chemin emphasized that refusing to work is illogical, given the scarcity of jobs, but that they cannot agree to terms that would ultimately replace them with AI. Neither EA nor Respawn has publicly commented on the matter, and both companies have been contacted for a statement.
