Warner Bros Sees 29% Decline in Game Revenue for Q4 2024
Warner Bros has released its Q4 and FY2024 financial reports, indicating a 29% year-over-year decrease in revenue for its gaming segment during the quarter ending December 31, 2024. Although specific figures for games revenue are not provided, the company notes that titles like Hogwarts Legacy and Mortal Kombat 1 performed better than in the same period last year. The overall revenue for the Studios segment increased by 16% year-over-year to $3.65 billion in Q4, but full-year revenue declined by 5% to $11.60 billion. Warner Bros as a whole saw a 1% drop in Q4 revenue to $10 billion compared to 2023, and a 4% decline in full-year revenue to $39.3 billion. In a letter to shareholders, the company discussed its recent restructuring, including the closure of Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros San Diego, resulting in the cancellation of the upcoming Wonder Woman project. The company stated, '2024 was a disappointing year for our games business, and we have announced a restructuring plan to refocus our resources on proven IP and games from world-class studios.' Warner Bros is focusing its gaming business on four key franchises: Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, Mortal Kombat, and DC, particularly top-tier characters like Batman. The success of Hogwarts Legacy is seen as a driving factor for this 're-focused strategy,' with the company expressing confidence that it can produce high-quality games and propel its games division back to profitability in 2025.
