This holiday season, Save the Children is set to debut its very first gaming‑focused and live‑streaming fundraiser, an event dubbed Save Point. According to Fiona Baxter, the charity’s senior fundraising manager, the concept for Save Point emerged from a broader ambition to deepen the organization’s connection with the gaming community.
"Save Point gives us a platform to reach out to gamers not only through formal partnerships but also via individual supporters," Baxter told GamesIndustry.biz. "Not everyone can commit to running a marathon, so an event like this is far more inclusive and showcases the unique contributions a different kind of supporter can make." The initiative is being rolled out in collaboration with popular online creator and streamer TheKapFantastic, who earlier this year helped raise more than £5,000 for the charity.
Baxter emphasized that Save Point is just the beginning of a longer‑term strategy to nurture relationships with gamers and streamers beyond the event itself. "It would be phenomenal to introduce a wider audience within this community to the work we do and why it matters," she said. "I’ll consider the event a massive success if, after it concludes, we have a fresh cohort of supporters who are eager to game for us again because of the experience they’ve had." Baxter also highlighted the learning curve involved.
"Because this is our first foray into this style of fundraising, the insights we gather will be priceless and will help us design even bigger and better gaming‑centric events year after year," she added. She described gamers and streamers as the "unsung heroes of fundraising," noting that the gaming world is "setting a new, innovative standard" for charitable support. "There’s a shared understanding among game lovers that we’re a community that cherishes stories, imagination, and the escape into new realms through play.
By channeling that passion into tangible, lasting change, we’re proving just how powerful and impactful the gaming community can be," Baxter explained. Save Point forms a key component of Save the Children’s broader campaign, "The One Delivery That Matters," which launches in November 2026.
The campaign aims to draw attention to the fact that, for millions of children worldwide, the most vital gifts this Christmas will not be toys but essential supplies—food, medicine, warm clothing, and safe shelter. "Anything you can imagine can be delivered straight to your doorstep with a tap on a screen," Baxter observed.
"But for countless children this holiday, the deliveries they’re awaiting are life‑saving essentials, not toys or sweets." The two‑day Save Point event is scheduled for December 5‑6, 2026. Participants can sign up by registering their interest, after which they will receive guidance on how to set up a fundraising livestream.
By merging the excitement of gaming with a clear humanitarian purpose, Save the Children hopes to tap into a vibrant, engaged audience and turn virtual play into real‑world impact, delivering crucial aid to children who need it most during the festive season.
