Pokémon Company Reaches Settlement in Copyright Infringement Lawsuit

A settlement has been reached in the lawsuit filed by The Pokémon Company against the developers of Pocket Monster: Remake. Following a court ruling in September that validated The Pokémon Company's copyright claim, the Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court ordered the defendants to pay $15 million. After initially disputing the judgment and filing appeals, Guangzhou Maichi Network Technology and Khorgos Fangchi Network Technology have now agreed to a mediated settlement, which includes a significant payment and public apologies. The turn-based mobile game Pocket Monster: Remake, released in 2015, featured characters and creatures that bore a strong resemblance to those in the Pokémon franchise, generating an estimated $42 million annually and prompting The Pokémon Company to seek $72 million in damages. Additionally, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have also initiated legal action against Pocketpair, the developer of the monster-collecting game Palworld.
