Amazon to Shut Down Android Appstore by August 2025
Amazon has confirmed that it will discontinue its Appstore for Android devices, effective August 20, 2025. The decision aims to redirect focus towards supporting the Appstore on Amazon's proprietary devices, citing higher customer engagement. Although the Appstore will no longer be available on Android, it will continue to operate on Fire TV and Fire Tablet devices. Developers received notice of this change on February 20, informing them that new Android apps would no longer be accepted, while updates would still be permitted until the closure date. Japanese customers will lose the ability to make in-app purchases through the Amazon Appstore on Android devices. Furthermore, Amazon Coins, the virtual currency, will also be phased out on August 20, with refunds issued for any remaining balances after this date.
