Bossa Games Hit by Staff Reductions Due to Industry Turmoil

Bossa Games has undergone another round of layoffs, affecting an unspecified number of employees. In a LinkedIn statement, co-founder and co-CEO Henrique Olifiers revealed that the studio made the difficult decision to reduce its workforce following the release of Lost Skies. Olifiers stated that the decision was necessary to focus on the game's late-stage production and ensure its successful launch and future development. Once Lost Skies is established, the studio plans to reorganize into smaller teams working on new game ideas. Olifiers attributed the decision to the current turmoil in the gaming industry, which has seen numerous studios and teams downsized or shut down. He noted that the past two years have brought significant disruption to the industry, with many studios and games being impacted. The developer had previously laid off around one third of its staff at the end of 2023, leaving 40 employees to work on Lost Skies. According to Olifiers, the reasons for these layoffs include the lack of attention for AA and indie games, increased operational costs, and delayed funding decisions.
