NetEase's Financial Report Reveals Marvel Rivals Has Surpassed 40 Million Players

The free-to-play game Marvel Rivals has achieved a notable milestone, attracting over 40 million players and securing the top spot on Steam's best-seller list. According to NetEase's latest financial report, the game's popularity surged after its launch on December 6, with over 10 million registered users within the first 72 hours and over 40 million to date. The game's Season 1 update in January 2025 further boosted its popularity, claiming the top spot on Steam's best-seller and most-played charts worldwide. NetEase's financial report also revealed a 1.5% increase in revenue from games and related value-added services during the fourth quarter of its fiscal year, reaching $2.9 billion and bringing its full-year revenue to $11.5 billion. The company's online games business accounted for approximately 96% of its total net revenues for fiscal year 2024. Notably, PC games such as Naraka: Bladepoint and licensed titles generated higher net revenues, contributing to the change in revenue distribution. The recent layoffs at a US support studio for Marvel Rivals and the shutdown of Visions of Mana developer Ouka Studios have raised questions about the company's strategic decisions.
