Unity Undergoes Restructuring with Latest Round of Job Cuts
Unity has initiated another wave of layoffs, as reported by various sources within the company. The team responsible for the visual tool Behavior, along with several designers and artists, have been affected by the cuts. In an internal email, Chief Revenue Officer Matthew Bromberg explained that these 'important organisational changes' primarily impact the CTO, Engine Product, and Ads teams, and are a response to the company's future plans. The exact number of affected employees is currently unknown. Bromberg stated that those impacted will be notified over the next few days, with all notifications expected to be completed by February 12. Town Hall meetings are scheduled to discuss Unity's future in multiple locations, starting with Montreal on February 12. The layoffs were communicated to staff simultaneously, resulting in some West Coast employees receiving notifications at 5 am. A senior technical artist, Peter Row, expressed gratitude for his time at Unity but criticized the company's approach to handling the layoffs, calling it 'abrupt and impersonal.' This is not the first round of layoffs for Unity, as the company announced a restructuring effort in January 2024, resulting in the loss of 1,800 jobs. The gaming industry has seen significant job losses in 2025, with over 845 developers affected by cuts and closures at various companies, including Freejam, Splash Damage, and Ubisoft.
