Nintendo Unveils Strategy to Meet Switch 2 Demand

Nintendo has provided additional insight into its strategy for meeting customer demand for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. During a recent Q&A session following the company's earnings call, President Shuntaro Furukawa informed investors that initial demand projections would be influenced by the reaction to the Nintendo Direct event on April 2, which promises a more in-depth look at Switch 2. The company will also be monitoring feedback from its upcoming hands-on consumer events, set to commence globally on April 4. Furukawa stated, "Currently, we are taking a proactive approach to production in order to meet demand as fully as possible. As we learned from the original Switch, rapidly scaling up production capacity can be challenging, so we are making preparations to respond as quickly as possible, based on our prior experience." Last July, Furukawa announced plans to counter scalpers by ensuring sufficient hardware supply for retailers to meet consumer demand. In another part of the earnings call, the president addressed the company's plans for balancing game titles between the Switch and Switch 2. When questioned about whether new titles would be released for the Switch or if the focus would shift to evergreen titles, Furukawa referenced the 2025 release lineup, including Pokémon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which will be available on the Switch. He noted, "Given the large number of people still playing the Switch, we would like to continue developing and releasing appealing new software. However, exclusive games play a vital role in the launch of new hardware. With this in mind, we will explore various approaches to encourage as many consumers as possible to enjoy our games on both the Switch and Switch 2."
