Newegg, a prominent online retailer of computer hardware, has announced that its stock of NVIDIA GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs was depleted 'within minutes' of going on sale. The retailer highlighted the immense surge in customer interest surrounding the RTX 5080 and RTX 5090 models. According to Jim Tseng, VP of Product Management, 'The response to the NVIDIA RTX 50 Series has been nothing short of extraordinary.' He added, 'The overwhelming demand is a testament to the gaming and PC community's passion for cutting-edge technology. We are committed to working closely with NVIDIA and our Add-In Board partners to ensure future inventory replenishments and continued availability for our customers who have not yet secured a GPU.' Newegg also noted that it is dedicated to helping customers upgrade to the latest video cards through its GPU trade-in program, making the latest technology more accessible. The retailer disclosed that its entire RTX 50 series inventory was sold out in just 20 minutes, resulting in an 8 to 10-fold increase in website traffic. The GPUs dominated the site's search queries, occupying nine out of the top ten spots and accounting for 18 of the 25 most visited pages. However, the swift sell-out has left many consumers frustrated, with some units appearing on bidding sites at significantly inflated prices, such as over $6,000 for the RTX 5090, which represents a 200% markup from the original retail price. In response to concerns about availability, an NVIDIA spokesperson reassured customers that the company and its partners are working to replenish stock and meet the high demand for the GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080. Manufacturers like MSI had previously cautioned that supply might be limited due to factors such as the Chinese New Year affecting production rates.
