MultiVersus to Cease Operations on May 30 Due to Underwhelming Performance
Warner Bros.' platform fighter, MultiVersus, is set to shut down on May 30, as announced by its developer, Player First Games. The game initially launched on May 28, 2024. In a recent statement on the company's official blog, it was revealed that the upcoming Season will be the final content update for the game. The development team expressed gratitude for the community's support, stating, 'We have poured our hearts into this game, and we are thankful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.' For players, online features will remain accessible until the end of Season 5 on May 30 at 9am PST. However, real-money transactions have been discontinued as of today. Players will still be able to access an offline version of the game, either solo or against AI, if they download the latest update and log in before the shutdown. The decision comes after Warner Bros. Discovery's President and CEO, David Zaslav, and CFO, Gunnar Wiedenfels, acknowledged the game's underperformance, resulting in a significant financial impairment. The company's gaming business has been substantially underperforming, and the shutdown of MultiVersus marks a significant step in addressing this issue.
