BioWare Adopts New Approach, Resulting in Job Cuts and Redeployment of Staff
BioWare is undergoing a significant transformation in its workflow, with the team behind the upcoming Mass Effect game no longer requiring the support of the entire studio. As a result, the studio's general manager, Gary McKay, has announced that they have made efforts to redeploy affected staff members to other teams within EA. Although the exact number of impacted employees remains unclear, reports suggest that a limited number of Dragon Age team members have been let go. The core development team for the next Mass Effect installment is now led by veterans of the original trilogy, including Mike Gamble, Preston Watamaniuk, and Derek Watts. In a statement, McKay explained that the studio is committed to innovation and is taking this opportunity to reassess its workflow. With the current stage of development not requiring full studio support, BioWare has successfully matched many colleagues with suitable roles in other EA teams over the past few months. This restructuring aims to create a more agile and focused studio, dedicated to producing exceptional RPGs. The recent cuts are part of an ongoing effort to adapt to the studio's evolving needs. Recently, Dragon Age: The Veilguard game director Corinne Busche also left BioWare, citing a voluntary decision to pursue an opportunity outside the developer that aligns with her passion for the CRPG space and creating memorable characters.
