Resident Evil Film Franchise to Undergo Another Reboot

A new Resident Evil movie reboot is currently in development, with multiple major studios, including Warner Bros. and Netflix, competing for the rights to distribute the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zach Cregger, who made his directorial debut with the 2022 horror film Barbarian, is reportedly attached to direct the project. Constantin Film, which has held the film rights to the Capcom franchise since the late 1990s and produced the original series starring Milla Jovovich, is set to produce the film alongside PlayStation Productions. Sources indicate that Cregger's vision for the reboot involves a return to the horror elements that defined the early games, released in 1996. This approach differs from the original film series, which began in 2002 and starred Milla Jovovich as Alice, a character created specifically for the movies. The series consisted of six films, followed by a 2021 reboot titled Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Cregger's project appears to be a separate entity from this previous reboot.
