Sony Announces Cancellation of Live Service Projects from Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games

Sony has officially confirmed the cancellation of two previously unannounced live service projects being developed by Bend Studio and Bluepoint Games. According to a spokesperson, the decision to cancel these projects was made after a recent review, reaffirming the company's commitment to developing both online and single-player games. The spokesperson emphasized that 'Bend and Bluepoint are highly accomplished teams and valued members of the PlayStation Studios family,' and the company is collaborating closely with each studio to determine their next projects. While neither studio is set to be closed, the impact of this decision on employees and the possibility of layoffs remain unclear. In an internal memo, Sony expressed its intention to 'work closely with Bend and Bluepoint' to minimize business disruption. Bend Studio, a first-party developer for Sony since 2000, is known for its work on the Days Gone series. Bluepoint Games, acquired by Sony in 2021, focuses on remasters and remakes, including notable titles such as Uncharted, God of War, and Demon Souls. This development follows the removal of Sony's live service hero shooter Concord from sale last September, just two weeks after its release, with its servers shutting down on September 6. The subsequent closure of Concord's developer, Firewalk Studios, and Neon Koi, occurred a month later, as part of Sony's evaluation of its 'games portfolio and status of [its] projects.'
