Nintendo Faces Criticism for Omitting Original Developers from Remastered Game Credits

The recently released Donkey Kong Country Returns HD has come under scrutiny for failing to include the original development team in its credits. According to a report by Nintendo Life, the remastered game, developed by Forever Entertainment, only provides a vague acknowledgment of the original developers, stating that it is "based on the work of the original development staff." This incident marks the second time Retro Studios has been excluded from the credits of a remastered game, following a similar controversy surrounding Metroid Prime Remastered in 2023. At that time, Jack Mathews, the original technical lead engineer, expressed his disappointment, describing it as a "tragedy" and a "punch in the gut" that his name and those of his colleagues were not included in the credits. Nintendo has faced criticism in the past for omitting contractors and translators from its credits as well. The company has not yet publicly responded to requests for comment on this matter.
