GOG Enhances Game Preservation Initiatives Through Partnership with European Archivist Organisation

GOG has established a partnership with the European Federation of Game Archives, Museums, and Preservation Projects, a prominent European federation dedicated to preserving video games as cultural heritage. Notable members include The Video Game Museum in Rome, MO5.COM in France, Computerspielemuseum in Berlin, The Netherlands Institute for Sound & Vision, and Embracer Games Archive. According to GOG, this membership represents a crucial step in connecting the private sector with cultural organisations across Europe, reinforcing its position as a leading advocate for game preservation and highlighting its dedication to this cause. "GOG was founded with the mission of preserving video games in mind," stated Maciej Gołębiewski, managing director at GOG. "Our core focus has always been on classic games and ensuring their availability for future generations. Over the past decade, we have refined our expertise in this area, as exemplified by the GOG Preservation Program, which has successfully ensured compatibility for over 100 games and introduced numerous enhancements. The Program has received a warm welcome from our players, partners, and the gaming industry as a whole." Andreas Lange, COO of EFGAMP, added: "GOG brings a distinctive perspective to our organisation as a European leader in digital game distribution. Their expertise in making classic games accessible to modern audiences complements the work of our existing members, contributing valuable digital expertise to our collective efforts. As GOG distributes classic games globally, they are an excellent addition to EFGAMP, whose members are primarily rooted in the cultural heritage sector."
