Freejam Closes Its Doors: Robocraft 2 Development Halted

Freejam, the development studio behind Robocraft 2, has announced its closure. In a statement released on Discord, the team attributed the shutdown to current market conditions and the financial burden of maintaining servers for Robocraft 2, which will now be discontinued along with its predecessor, Robocraft, and Cardlife. The game has already been removed from Steam, where it was available as an Early Access title. The developers expressed their gratitude to the community for their support and feedback, emphasizing the significant role the community played in driving the studio forward. The exact number of affected employees is unclear, but the studio's LinkedIn page suggests it has between 11 and 50 employees at its UK headquarters. This news follows a series of layoffs in the gaming industry, including significant job losses at Toadman Interactive, Piranha Games, Splash Damage, and Jar of Sparks, with over 150 developers losing their jobs in the first two weeks of 2025 alone.
