Andrew Gower Returns to MMORPGs with Brighter Shores After RuneScape Success

Andrew Gower, the renowned creator of the hit MMORPG RuneScape, has been working on a new project for a long time. After departing from Jagex in 2010, Gower founded Fen Research with the goal of developing a brand-new game engine called FenForge. His passion for creating engines led him to explore the competitive computer game space, where he aimed to raise the bar in game engine quality. However, to promote the engine, Gower needed a project to demonstrate its capabilities, which led to the development of several games, including a real-time strategy settlement building title called Chasm. Although Chasm was eventually repurposed for Brighter Shores, an MMORPG, Gower's experience and love for the genre ultimately guided him back to his roots. With Brighter Shores, Gower returns to the MMORPG genre with a wealth of experience, allowing him to approach game design with a fresh perspective and create a game that caters to players with varying amounts of free time. The game features a British medieval fantasy setting, skills to level up, and a combat triangle system, but with a more mature and planned approach to design. Gower's goal is to create a game that can be enjoyed by both casual and dedicated players, with a focus on building a strong foundation and gradually adding more content. The launch of Brighter Shores has also served as a successful advertisement for the FenForge tech, with a Mostly Positive user rating on Steam and a stable, bug-free performance.
