Nintendo Completes Acquisition of Monolith Soft
Nintendo has finalized the purchase of the outstanding shares of Monolith Soft, thereby increasing its ownership stake from 96% to 100% of the company. According to a report by Automaton, an update on the developer's website now reflects Nintendo's complete ownership of the studio, with all 2,400 shares under its control. Although the exact date of the transaction is unclear, an archive of the company's webpage reveals that Nintendo possessed 2,320 shares as of October 1, 2024. However, by November 21, this number had increased to 2,400 shares, as discovered by VGC. Prior to this acquisition, Monolith Soft's co-founders, including Hirohide Sugiura, Tetsuya Takahashi, and Yasuyuki Honne, collectively held a 4% stake in the company. Nintendo initially acquired an 80% stake in Monolith Soft from Bandai Namco in 2007. In addition to developing the acclaimed Xenoblade Chronicles series, Monolith Soft has provided development support for various notable Nintendo titles, including The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Splatoon, and Animal Crossing.
